Pita River Waterfalls

At just 16 km of the capital Quito, is located the Pita River.  This is a spectacular place to visit.  Should you want to enjoy a day visit or perhaps a few days camping, hiking, horseback riding, biking the trails or an exciting fishing day for trout.  Throughout the walk on the trails you may appreciate many kinds of births and wildlife.  One thing is for sure.  You and your family will have plenty activities to do and enjoy..

It begins at the volcano Cotopaxi´s glacials, runs across the slopes and go through the canyon of its same name.  Here you can admire lush and beautiful native flora and fauna living around and the neighbor forest within the ecosystem.  The great waterfall of the Rio Pita, is about 90 meters high.  This waterfall is said to be magical, the sharmans perform rituals each solstice.

The weather in this area tend to be pretty fresh and cold.  At 18 degrees Celcius (64 fahrenheit).  You will observe a variety of trees such: eucaliptus, cedro, guayacán.  And a lovely spectacle of species such a hummingbirds, mirlo birth, and fox.

Additionally you may see the dangerously extinct Hyloxalus jacobuspetersi (rocket frog of Quito), which is an emblematic figure because was discovered en the south of Quito City.  This species was known from the inter-Andean valleys of Guayllabamba, Toachi, Chimbo, and Cañar, and on the western slopes of the Andes in northern and central Ecuador, where it occupied areas between 1,500 and 3,800m and was known from more than ten localities.



We will be departing from Quito early in the morning toward Sangolqui, past through El Molinuco.  From here you have the choice of hike or horseback riding towards the waterfall..  Should you want to bath in the river you may.
